Soapstone
Soapstone’s distinctive character adds a warm look and cool feel to any space. Additionally, this natural stone will develop a rich, dark patina over time as it undergoes a process similar to oxidation. Soapstone is a soft material, with hardness comparable to high-end marble.

Advantages
No sealing is required for soapstone due to its non-porous surface, which also makes it much less susceptible to staining and water damage. While soapstone is a soft material, dents or chips are easily repaired with sanding. Soapstone also offers high heat-resistance.
Disadvantages
Soapstone will scratch or chip with heavy wear. There is a limited color range with soapstone, shades vary from light gray to black – the stone will get darker with time, and green or blue undertones may become more pronounced. Similar to quartzite, soapstone slabs have size limitations and oversized countertops may require a seam.
Maintenance
While soapstone does not require a seal, these countertops do require regular oiling with mineral oil to help develop the patina evenly.
