Soapstone’s distinctive character adds a warm look and cool feel to any space. Additionally, this natural stone will develop a rich, dark patina over time as it undergoes a process similar to oxidation. Soapstone is a soft material, with hardness comparable to high-end marble.

Softer surface can scratch or dent easily.
Requires regular oiling to maintain color depth.
Limited color options (typically gray to green tones).
Maintenance
While soapstone does not require a seal, these countertops do require regular oiling with mineral oil to help develop the patina evenly.
